Abstract

Progress of application stable isotopes of carbon and nitrogen in the area animal science requires deep knowledge of complicating factors such as the lipid content of tissue and basic effects of the lipid extraction process on species in question. Currently scientists remove lipids tissue by various chemical processes, since it is known that lipids are not enriched at 13C. However, this process has been largely investigated and criticized due to isotopic variation caused by each method. Furthermore, the techniques of extraction of fat are extended, causing delays in preparing the samples. For improving the interpretation of the results is made further studies of these methods and each of these interference for subsequent choice of best technique and standardization of preparation method of samples of the tracking process, therefore suspect that in addition to the extraction process occur withdrawal of lipid molecules also occurs extraction impoverished in nitrogen-15. Therefore, the aim of this study is to determine whether the processes of extraction of lipids alter the isotopic signal of tissues (liver and muscle) of several species of interest in animal science. Samples will be purchased in supermarkets, slaughterhouses, or experiments, taking care of all samples are from the same part, so that the variable is just the process of extracting the lipids. The isotopic results obtained will be submitted to linear discriminant analysis using the statistical software package Minitab 16. (AU)
