Abstract

Textile industries have contributed to the contamination of water bodies by discharging their effluents into the environment. These industries use a wide variety of dyes in industrial processes and among them there are the azodyes that are important since they are extensively used and also because they are difficult to degrade due to their molecule complexity and insolubility in water. Inside this group, we find the dye Acid Red 114, which is the focus of this study. Due to the aforementioned the present study was proposed in order to evaluate the toxicity of this dye, as well as its bioremediation by a consortium of microorganisms and the toxicity of the compounds generated by bioremediation. To evaluate the toxicity, the parameters considered will be genotoxicity and mutagenicity. For the genotoxicity analysis it will be used the Comet Assay in the human cell lines HepG2 and HFF-1. To evaluate the mutagenic potential, the micronucleus test will be performed (MN) in human cell lines HepG2 and HFF-1 and the Ames test (Salmonella typhimurium).
