Abstract

The mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) is an endodontic material suitable for the sealing of accidental perforation of the root canal, direct pulp capping, filling the open root apex, and in cases of pulpotomy treatment of trauma in primary teeth with pulp necrosis. Objectives: This project aims to compare the physicochemical properties of cements with mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) and calcium hydroxide used in pulp capping. Materials and methods: Specimens made with MTA (white MTA Angelus) or calcium hydroxide (Dycal, Dentsply) will be subjected to bending test at three points after 24 hours storage at 37 ° C in order to determine the modulus of rupture and modulus of elasticity. The porosity is determined for each material a stereomicroscope using fragments obtained after the specimens for mechanical tests. The buffering capacity and ion release of the materials will be analyzed at 3, 24, 72 and 168 hours. The release of ions is determined by Inductively Coupled Plasma Spectroscopy. The results will be analyzed using the Student t test (overall significance level of 5%). The data release of ions and buffer capacity at different times for each material are separately analyzed by single factor ANOVA and Turkey tests. (AU)
