Abstract

Political participation is commonly understood as acting in the sphere of politics, being this one considered as a specific field of social relations. This perspective implies an adult rationale and has as prerequisites capacities and forms of sociability identified as specific to this development stage. We propose to problematize the discussions of political participation considering children as possible subjects in this process. This project has the objective of comprehending the conceptions of political participation of children, articulating them to the contributions of Antonio Gramsci to the field of politic theory and of Vigotski to human development and constitution of subject. The research will be developed at a rural settlement in Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo, Brazil. The participants will be children from eight to twelve years that express interest in discussing about "political participation of children". They will be divided in two groups (from eight to ten and from ten to twelve years old), each one constituted, at most, by six children. The following tools will be used: (1) groups of discussion with the children; (2) drawings about the group discussions; (3) individual conversation with the children; (4) group of discussion based on situations presented in the individual conversations; (5) further theoretical study. For data analysis minute readings will be carried out, followed by the elaboration of a map about the issues addressed and meanings that emerged in the conversations with the children. Then, an interlocution between Gramsci and Vigotski will be constructed, using different concepts that dialogue with each other or reinterpreting them from the material constructed on this research.Keywords: political participation; children; human development.
