Abstract

We will investigate the influence of hypoxia during incubation on the O2 and CO2 chemosensitivity of one-day Leghorn® chicks. Fertile eggs will be incubated in three different conditions: normoxia (21% O2) during all the incubation; hypoxia (15% O2) during the entire last day of incubation; and hypoxia for 2 hours a day during all the incubation. Pulmonary ventilation, oxygen consumption and CO2 production will be measured in the hatchlings of all treatments submitted to hypoxia (10 and 15% O2 inspired air) or hypercapnia (2 and 4% CO2 inspired air). Results will be analyzed through the analysis of variance (ANOVA) using the post hoc Bonferroni test. Statistical analyses will be conducted using the SAS® software. (AU)
