Abstract

This research aims to study the urban potential of mobility nodes, it means, to verify the possibilities of multifunctional urban projects located in intersection areas of transport infrastructure network in the São Paulo Metropolitan Region (RMSP) context.The study is part of two important urban debates that want to introduce more quality and better performance in the contemporary city. On the first level, it correlates the current urban configuration of the metropolis with systemic interventions based on transport infrastructure networks. On a second level, as a consequence of the first one, it analyzes the possibilities of the urbanism considering physical and functional aspects of the urban growth pattern of the metropolis, defined as diffused or dispersed by some authors (INDOVINA, 1990; KOOLHAAS, 1994; MONCLUS, 1996; GRAHAM & MARVIN, 2001) and described as a particular urban phenomenon of the late 20th century.These processes have built new issues and parameters to urban actions through new models of urban projects. An important aspect of this transformation chain is the urgency for higher levels of urban density towards the compact city, improving both the optimization of infrastructure networks and the multiplicity of uses.The methodology adopted is based on a parallel between "urban mobility nodes" and "urban centralities" from two scales: the mobility plans, which include the Plano Integrado de Transportes Urbanos for 2020 and 2025, and urban projects in related areas.
