Abstract

This research project aims to investigate the nexus of inter-relationship between social reproduction and production of urban space through the moments of conception, implementation and ownership of the environment and social space inhabited built. The starting point is the case study of the production process of the Commune Urban Dom Helder Camara, the first urban housing project in Brazil linked to the Movement of Landless Rural Workers (MST). Inserted in a process of social production, the Urban Commune presents as an urban form of a particular mode of social production, and understanding the dynamics Brazilian socio-training seems to allow the study of trends and contradictions of configuration process of urban society. Thus, the study of the urban phenomenon from the relationship between dwelling and habitat presents itself as an important key to understanding the dynamics of production and appropriation of the cities, to enable the seizure of links that allow qualifying the recent pattern of social reproduction of urban space, based on the inter-relationship with the general phenomena of self (slums), state production of housing (Program My House, My Life) and the proliferation of gated communities and luxury that spread along the Brazilian metropolises. The research aims to understand trends and contradictions of social reproduction space from the urban experience of the Urban Commune, these urban phenomena and verify what is separation, division and separation between people, and what unites them and brings closer the urban space produced that can express the typological differences and spatial forms in the city.
