Abstract

Osteoporosis is a metabolic disorder that is very common in females, usually elderly, and that can affect the standard of living of the individual leading to the emergence of bone fractures. Even currently considering the success of drugs that inhibit bone resorption, there is the need for anabolic agents that enhance the new bone formation in people who already had significant bone loss. Thus, numerous products have been studied to evaluate their actions on bone healing process, including drugs that inhibit HMG-CoAredutase (statins), originally used in the treatment of hypercholesterolemia, but with potential pleiotropic beneficial effects on bone healing, especially in individuals suffering from osteoporosis. Thus, the aim of this study is to analyze 30 Wistar rats - Rattus norvegicus albinos, 7-8 weeks old with body weight 220 ± 10 grams, after an oblique fracture in the femur, contained in stainless steel wire, in rats . The animals will be divided into six groups: Ovariectomy (OVX) and SHAM that were fed with liquid Sinvastina at concentrations of 5 and 20 mg / kg / day. The phases of bone repair will be analyzed by the radiographic and histologic methods to determine the effects of simvastatin. (AU)
