Abstract

The Asteraceae family has about 11.000 genera and more than 20.000 species. The Lychnophorinae, belongs to the subtribe Vernonieae and has distribution restricted to Brazil. From the phytochemical viewpoint, it present STL from guaianolido and germacranolido type.The STL are known due to its anti-inflammatory, allelopathic, toxic and feeding deterrents to herbivores properties. In addition to the STL, the plants have an enormous diversity of secondary metabolites, in part attributed to their interactions with herbivores. These metabolites may have different mechanisms of defense against herbivores. However some adapted herbivores have developed mechanisms to survive the defenses of plants and may even accumulate, concentrate or modify these metabolites for their own benefit. Currently metabolomics techniques are effective for ecochemicals studies and metabolic profiles of plants. Thus, the aims of this project are to obtain metabolic profiles of plants from subtribe Lychnophorinae and insects that feed these plants in order to identify possible chemical interactions and still utilize the metabolic profiles of plants as chemotaxonomic tool to assist in the resolution of taxonomic classification this subtribe. Also, will be used as analytical tools equipment UHPLC-UV-MS and GC-MS as needed, in conjunction with statistical tools metabolomic
