Abstract

This project is a deployment of over two years of research that had as empirical object the LGBT movement (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) of Campinas (a city in the state of São Paulo, Brazil) and its relations with other social actors. It is inserted in the studies of anthropology of politics and social movements and studies on gender and sexuality, as their are empirical object policies around (homo) sexualities. Its overall objective is to contribute to the understanding of contemporary social movements in Brazil by analyzing the LGBT movement of Campinas. Therefore, emphasizes: 1) its relationship with other social actors involved in the same political processes, with special attention to the transits between different institutional affiliations and the multiple insertions of the subjects, 2) the relationship of such actions and actors with physical space where they are established, as the LGBT movement, as organized in Brazil, has been constituted as typically urban, and part of this movement in Campinas actions occur within the city and also through public intervention in urban space. This is an ethnographic research that makes use of participant observation complemented by in-depth interviews and document analysis, resulting in the production of empirical data that will be collated with those obtained in previous research. Among the field situations that are crucial in this research are activities that bring together diverse social actors, such as enlarged meetings held by state agencies aimed at promoting the rights of LGBT public events organized in the city as well as the local LGBT parades and its process organization.
