Abstract

The cleft lip and palate are the third most common type of congenital anomalies in the world. To provide a multidisciplinary care to patients, ensuring a esthetic, functional and psychologic rehabilitation, is necessary knowing the particularities of this population. It is known that some patients have more risk of developing periodontal disease and that there are sites where it may occur while in others it do not. In individuals with cleft lip and palate this condition should be the same, however there are few studies that evaluate the prevalence and incidence of periodontitis in this population. For this reason, the objective of this study will be evaluate the periodontal condition of individuals with cleft lip and palate. The sample will contain 200 individuals with cleft lip, alveolus and palate, under treatment in the Hospital for Rehabilitation of Craniofacial Anomalies/USP, in Bauru. The clinical parameters that will be considered are: probing depth, clinical attachment level, gingival index, plaque index, gingival recession, classification of the gingival recession and quantity of keratinized mucosa of all teeth.
