Abstract The human skin exposure to sunlight can cause damage such as erythema, cancer and premature aging of the skin. One of the ways to protect the skin and, consequently, decrease these effects, is the use of sunscreens, as the octyl methoxycinnamate (OMC). The OMC is an organic sunscreen that has a spectrum against UVB rays and has been very used in photoprotective formulations. For real action of sunscreen, it is extremely important to their permanence in the outer layers of the epidermis, in order to avoid systemic effects. Some studies have detected the OMC in samples of blood, urine and milk after topical application of conventional semi-solid formulations, indicating systemic exposure. In this way, it becomes convenient the study an appropriate carrier for the OMC, to permit a high retention skin. Drug delivery systems based on nanotechnology, including liquid-crystalline systems, are able to increase the retention of the compound in the outer layers of the skin, which in turn will allow for greater protection against UV rays. The present work aims at the development of nanostructured systems consisting of silicones with OMC and evaluation of permeation and cutaneous retention of this compound in vitro. The expected of this study is obtain a drug delivery system of nanostructural level for the OMC to increase its retention in the outer skin layers. | |
