Abstract

Neuromyelitis optica (NMO) is an autoimmune demyelinating disease of the central nervous system. Although about 20% of patients do not exhibit anti aquaporin 4 (AQP4 antibodies, there is evidence that tissue damage is more severe in patients with autoantibodies to AQP4. This antibody belongs to the class IgG1 and therefore depends on the cooperation of CD4 for its synthesis. In this proposal, our goal is to study the B lymphocyte subpopulations in patients with NMO, as well as the participation of plasmacytoid dendritic cells (PDCs), determination of IFN-± in the serum of these patients, and the interaction of these two cell subpopulations (B cells and PDCs) with CD4 T lymphocytes.
