Abstract Proteasome dependent proteolysis is a key process in skeletal muscle atrophy. Nonetheless the role of proteasome dependent proteolysis in other aspects of skeletal muscle remodeling such as fiber type specification is not well known. Ongoing experiments out of another study from our group show that MuRF1/MuRF2 knock out mice fail to regenerate properly, by mechanisms involving deficient differentiation. In addition we have evidence that this deficient regeneration involves presence of white adipocytes, raising the possibility that MuRFs are involved in maintenance of skeletal muscle cell phenotype. The main aim of this study is to understand the role of MuRFs upon skeletal muscle cell differentiation. Also we aim to determine whether MurFs are important to maintaining skeletal muscle cell identity. | |
