Abstract

The average Brazilian goat herd reached 9,3 animals in 2010, placing the country in first place of production of goat milk in the Latin America. The most important injury that afflicts the milk production is mastitis caused by Staphilococcus aureus. The purpose of this work is evaluate the White Blood Count and the serum biochemistry profile, especially Acute Phase Proteins, in goats with experimental mastitis caused by S. aureus and verify possible biomarkers to do an early diagnose of the illness in goats. For this, will be evaluated 10 mammary quarters of 5 adult Saanen goats. After the feeding and environmental adaptation during 7 days, the animals will be inoculated in one of the tits with a solution containing the S. aureus and the other tit with sterile saline solution. The goats will be submitted to general clinical examination and also specific of the mammary gland using California Mastitis Test and somatic cell count (CCS) of the milk in 10 moments, in other words, 48 hours before the inoculation (M-2), 24 hours before the inoculation (M-1), immediately before the inoculation (M0), 24 hours (M1), 48 hours (M2), 72 hours (M3), 96 hours (M4), 120 hours (M5), 144 hours (M6) and 168 hours (M7) after the inoculation. In these moments, also, blood will be collected from the goats for analysis of Complete Blood Counts, plasma concentration of total protein and fibrinogen, as well serum biochemistry profile will be realized. In the end, a statistical analysis will be performed using the results obtained of experiment. (AU)
