Abstract

The cowpea crop in a no tillage system in out of season period is in expansion, but studies with this crop in this crop system are necessary. In a no tillage system there is not soil disturbance and the consequent accumulation of plant residues and fertilizer on the surface accelerate the process of acidification, which occurs naturally and results in low nutrients and high H+AL levels. Thus, in the same way as in the conventional system, in a no tillage system is also necessary the application of inputs, especially acidity corrective materials. In Brazil, the corrective of soil acidity most used is lime. However, silicates from the steel slag materials have similar behavior of lime, so can be used as corrective of soil acidity, besides being a source of silicon for crops. Within this approach, this study has the objective of evaluating the influence of surface application of lime and calcium and magnesium silicate in the cowpea crop in region of dry winter. The sowing of cowpea will be in March 2013 in spacing of 0.45 m. The statistical design of experiment will be in a randomized blocks, with sixteen repetitions. Treatments consisting of two correctives of soil acidity and a control (lime, calcium and magnesium silicate, and without surface application of correctives). Will be held the following assessments: shoot dry matter production, leaf levels of macronutrients, silicon and water soluble cations of shoot dry matter, besides yield components and yield of cowpea.
