Abstract

Methane production by ruminants is one of the largest sources of anthropogenic emissions of GHG. Due to this situation, several mathematical models have been developed to estimate CH4 emissions by ruminants assisting in the development of appropriate strategies for mitigation. Therefore, the objective of this project is to develop mathematical models for estimating enteric methane emissions by ruminants in Brazilian conditions. To accomplish this will be use the database from the candidate's doctoral project entitled "Inclusion of crude glycerin with different sources of roughage in the diet of feedlot steers" FAPESP n ° 2011/11656-9 in which the measurements were performed methane in vivo 30 Nellore with an average weight of 483 kg by tracer technique sulfur hexafluoride SF6 and ruminal metabolism of 9 Nellore average weight 270 kg cannulated in the rumen and duodenum.Upon the foregoing, the stage in the research center Rural Research, Education & Consulting (SRUC) in Edinburgh, Scotland, will be of great importance for the candidate and his entire team, because this is a world reference center for studies quantifying GHG emissions by agriculture.
