Abstract

After the success in synthesizing fluorescent probes for studies of biological processes markers, this new project consists in an application of these probes in Chemical Biology under the supervision of Dr. Wessjohann from Leibniz Institute of Plant Biochemistry (Halle an der Salle, Germany). This study will be conducted in two stages. One project consist in to design fluorescent dyes with a suitable linker to be attached to prenyldiphosphate substrates, aiming at studying prenyltransferases enzymes who overall are not known yet. The second project aims at profiling proteins based on their activity. To achieve this goal we will synthesized peptides containing various substituents, via multi components reaction. Each substituent plays a specific role, and one of the groups attached to the core peptide will be labeled with a fluorescent probe developed in our group. To accomplish these objectives, new functional groups should be incorporated into the chain attached to the nitrogen of the maleimide ring.In both projects, the knowledge of Dr. Wessjohann group will be critical to carry the protein labels, monitor the processes and analyze the results. Upon conclusion of this work, we hope to have a direct application to the probes that we have synthesized. (AU)
