Abstract

Large DNA viruses evolve by recombination and by a succession of gene gain and loss events, mostly from cellular host genomes. These processes allow them to undergo necessary adaptive changes. As a consequence, their genome is composed of a common replicative core that holds their evolutionary relationship, around which satellite genes that code mainly for host relationship are accreted. This work aims to compare the genomes of large DNA viruses that infect insects, entomopoxviruses, iridoviruses, ascoviruses, baculoviruses, and nudiviruses; and search for convergent events of independent parallel gene acquisition that may inform about host interaction. These genes will be compared in order to search for evolutionary relation, gene flux, origin, diversification, epistatic interactions and selective pressure after horizontal transfer. While doing so, it will be possible to infer a genomic network that reconstructs events of gene acquisition and modification that could demonstrate how organisms vary their complexity thorough time.
