Abstract

The concerns about global warming and emissions of greenhouse gases in recent decades has intensified. Among the causes of this disorders, is cattle. Cattle transforms vegetables and cereals in noble products, such as meat and milk. This transformation is not perfect, part of the energy contained in food is not the animal leverages and is lost in the form of gases and manure. The manure, if not treaty in an appropriate manner, it becomes another source of methane emissions. The objective of this study is to quantify the production of enteric methane production allied to short-chain fatty acids and verify the potential of methane emissions from manure. Are used 6 cows not pregnant and not lactating created in feedlot, which will receive received the following diets:T1-control treatment, T2-inclusion of 30% of cottonseed; T3-inclusion of 30% cottonseed + vitamin E. Will be used as experimental delineation, a 3x3 Latin square. Will be evaluated dry matter intake, rumen dynamics, rumen pH, ammonia nitrogen production, production of short chain fatty acids, methane production, lost relative energy, potential production of methane from manure.
