Abstract

In the last few decades, obesity showed a high prevalence in several countries, this in turn is responsible for metabolic alterations associated with the development of chronic diseases. Just before the global landscape against overweight using indexes as tools that measure and classify individuals in relation to their body composition are essential. BMI is an index widely used, but today it is known that BMI has limitations. Currently some indexes have been proposed as the BAI, BMIfat (BMI corrected for fat) and ASBI. Objective: To compare the diagnostic performance between indices of adiposity such as BMI traditional BMIfat impedance obtained by BAI and ASBI, for the detection of excess weight in a sub sample of the population of Ribeirão Preto. Methodology: there will be a cross-sectional study of 300 individuals, including adolescents and adults, and patients and their caregivers, staff Cynic Hospital of the Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto, University of São Paulo and students of undergraduate courses in the Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto (FMRP), University of São Paulo (USP) in Campus of Ribeirão Preto - SP, in both sexes. Volunteers will undergo anthropometry (measurement of weight and height, the measurement of waist circumference (WC), hip circumference (HC) and bioelectrical impedance (BIA), which will allow calculation of indices of adiposity (BMI, BMIfat, BAI ABSI) to establish comparisons between the diagnostic performance of these indices in the study sample.
