Abstract

Allelopathy is a mechanism of biochemical interactions between organisms, considered a form of adaptation chemistry. In this phenomenon, biomolecules produced by a particular species are released into the environment and influence the growth and development of other organisms. The objective of this study is to evaluate the phytotoxic potential of Lyngbya majuscula and Nitella furcata extracts through bioassays pre and post-emergence, to investigate the possible influence of these on genetic material (mitotic index) in roots of Allium cepa test and evaluate also insecticidal activity against Sitophilus zeamais. Goal here is also to evaluate and quantify the potential antioxidant, phenolics and flavonoid contends extracts. For both bioassays (pre and post-emergence tests) and insecticides will be conducted in the laboratory, seeds and seedlings of Lactuca sativa will be treated with the extracts of L. majuscula and N. furcata (in concentrations 5, 10 and 20 mg.mL-1 ), and a negative control (water). Already in evaluating insecticide, the extracts will be administered by topical application in corn seeds that will be offered to adult insects S. zeamais concentrations 5, 10 and 20 mg.mL-1 for the control group and the seeds are sprayed with distilled water. The determination of the phytotoxic action of the extract is evaluated by means of the mitotic index. The antioxidant activity and the determination of phenols and flavonoids these extracts by spectrophotometric. Therefore the investigation and determination of compounds with allelopathic potential is of paramount importance for better understanding of the ecological interactions between organisms in a given environment, but also for a possible production a herbicide and/or natural insecticide.
