Abstract

Dentistry is one of the most stressful professions within the area of health, and stress among the dentists may originate during the training process. During the undergraduate program students experience high levels of stress for the acquisition of cognitive skills, clinical and interpersonal skills, which if left unchecked can have serious consequences such as mental health or physical problems, illegal substance abuse, absenteeism, reduced efficiency in learning, performance degradation, depersonalization, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder and other symptoms. Thus, the present work aims to make the cross-cultural adaptation of a questionnaire to evaluate the stress in dental environment, the Dental Environment Stress Questionnaire (DES) for the Portuguese language. This instrument is composed of 38 items where the answers are presented in 4-point Likert-type scale points and has 7 dimensions: Faculty and administration, academic factors, manual skills, financial obligations, patient care, personal and family problems. Initially will be held to face validity, which consists in the translation of the English version for the Portuguese language and retranslation. A multidisciplinary team composed of 6 judges will make an evaluation, semantic, cultural, idiomatic and conceptual instrument, aimed at achieving agreement and consensus and obtaining an intermediate version. This intermediate version will pass through the process of content validity in which will participate in 20 other judges who will consider each of the items of the instrument and will sort it in "essential", "useful but not essential" and "not necessary". The formula used to compute this index will be the Content Validity Ratio (RVC) and to the decision of deletion of the item will be considered the RVC20;0,05=0,42. To estimate the reproducibility of the questionnaire will be intra-examinador randomly selected 60 students of the Faculty of Dentistry of Araraquara-UNESP, which respond to questionnaire at two different time with an interval of one week. The data relating to responses of each item will be applied to the Kappa statistic (ºp) with linear weighting per point and 95% confidence interval (IC95%). (AU)
