Abstract

Based on the search for the better productive capacity of the animal and obtain maximum profitability , that it's required in the global scenario presented in recent years , we have new alternatives that can a good influence on the performance of the animal , for example , the use of ionophores in cattle feed . Monensin is an ionophore antibiotic that acts in the manipulation of rumen fermentation, increasing the animal performance . However, beyond the quest for greater productive efficiency, there is also the question about human health by consumer markets, creating rules for the use of these additives in animal feed. Thus, natural compounds alternative view being developed for this purpose , for the nacional and international consumers . Among the natural compounds most used are the essential oils (secondary compounds from various parts of plants ) and chitosan (one natural biopolymer derived from chitin , the exoskeleton of crustaceans and insects ) . These compounds have attracted interest in its use, for presenting recent research in similar responses to the use of ionophores , mainly on the population balance of microorganisms in the rumen . However, there are few studies that specifically evaluate and compare the use of monensin, essential oils , and chitosan . A scientific hypothesis to be evaluated in this research project suggests that the use of essential oils ( Crina Ruminants ® , DSM Nutritional Products - compounds of essential oils , including oil, thymol , eugenol , vanillin , guaiacol , and limonene ) or chitosan for feeding cows dairy similar results using monensin , and positively influence productive performance , digestion and metabolism of dairy cows in early lactation. This study will be conducted to evaluate the use of various additives in feed for lactating cows and the effect on intake and apparent digestibility of dry matter and nutrients , fermentation and microbial protein synthesis , ruminal production and milk composition, metabolic profile and nitrogen balance.
