Abstract

Staphylococcus aureus is a global concern, representing a public health problem because it usually colonizes the skin of people, currently identified both in the hospital and in the community. In individuals with HIV / AIDS this colonization may involve greater risk of morbidity and mortality. In order to identify the risk factors associated with nasal colonization by Staphylococcus aureus in people living with HIV/AIDS, we propose a case-control, prospective longitudinal quantitative character, to be held at the Hospital of the Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto, University of São Paulo, in the two inpatient units specialized in HIV/AIDS. After approval by the Ethics in Research, will be developed in the period August 2011 to February 2015, individuals with HIV/AIDS admitted to these units . Samples will be collected from the front of both nostrils (nasal discharge) approximately 200 patients. After isolation and identification of clinical samples will be performed phenotypic analysis of the micro -organism. For analytical discussion will use descriptive statistics and multivariate logistic regression, using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 17.0. This project will be built on epidemiological mapping oxacillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus in individuals with HIV / AIDS to establish a system for prospective surveillance population of this bacterium.
