Abstract

Biofilm is defined as a combination of bacterial and / or fungi, attached to surfaces or interfaces biotic or abiotic, included in a complex matrix of extracellular polymeric substances, along with nutrients captured for matrix formation. Biofilms consist of microorganisms that are associated with, and communicating, with a community complex and resistant behavior. Although some biofilms are beneficial biotechnological processes, when they are formed on or in medical and dental devices pose a serious threat to public health due to its enormous resistance. Currently there are many studies related to dental implants and bone, seeking to discover or develop new materials that reduce or prevent bacterial adhesion and subsequent biofilm formation on them, in order to prevent the occurrence of infections and to prevent the transmission of diseases. In these studies, the goal is to find bioactive materials that facilitate the adhesion of the implant to the tissue, preventing the interface from becoming infected by microorganisms . This paper seeks to understand more than the behavior of a biofilm, analyze the action of BSF18 which is a bioglass (type of bioactive material) on the formation of bacterial biofilms and analyze samples in Scanning Microscopy. The BSF18 material is analyzed by means of a series of comparisons with its bound form silver (Ag BSF18) which is a heavy metal and inhibits the growth of microorganisms, with the common with the glass and 45S5, which is already known and has High ability to interact with bone tissue, evaluating the performance of these materials on biofilm growth.
