Abstract

The decline in dental caries over the past two decades has been attributed to the extensive use of fluorides. Some of the presentations are fluoridated toothpastes, largely used by the population, in view of other fluoride products. The aim of the present in vitro study the ability of fluoride toothpastes containing 1100 ppm F, supplemented or not with different concentrations of nano-sized of sodium hexametaphosphate (HMP, to reduce the demineralization of tooth enamel will be assessed. Blocks bovine (n = 60) are selected through the initial surface hardness (SHi) and then divided into 5 experimental groups (n = 12): 1) toothpaste placebo(without F / HMP); 2) toothpaste 1100 ppm F; 3) toothpaste 1100 ppm F associated with nano-sized HMP 0.5%; 4) toothpaste 1100 ppm F associated with nani-sized 1.0% HMP and 5) toothpaste 1100 ppm F associated with nano-sized 3.0% HMP. The blocks will be treated twice a day with the toothpaste time, being subjected to pH 5 cycling for 7 days. After pH cycling, will be determined at final surface hardness (SHf), the percentage of change of surface hardness (%SH). The data will be tested for normality and homogeneity tests to use the most appropriate distribution of data statistical test. © Sigmaplot software for Windows version 12.0, with significance level of 5% will be used for statistical program.
