Abstract

The potentiation of the effect of conventional toothpastes is essential to reduce the prevalence of dental caries in high risk patients. The objective of this study is to evaluate, in situ, the ability of a dentifrice containing nanoparticulate sodium hexametaphosphate (HMPnano) associated with fluoride (F), to reduce the demineralization of dental enamel. They will be held 4 experimental periods lasting seven days each, and 7-day washout between them being blind crossover study. bovine enamel blocks (n = 192) will be selected through the initial surface hardness (SHI) and then twelve volunteers (n = 12) use palatal appliances containing 4 enamel blocks for 7 days in 4 experimental phases: 1) toothpaste no F/HMPnano (Placebo); 2) toothpaste 1100 ppm F (1100 ppm F); 3) toothpaste 1100 ppm associated with 0.5% HMP microparticle (1100 0.5%HMPmicro) and 4) toothpaste 1100 ppm associated with 0.5% HMP nanoparticulate (1100 0.5% HMPnano). The cariogenic challenge will be produced by using a sucrose 30% solution. In enamel blocks will be determined the hardness of the end surface (SHF) for calculating the surface hardness loss percentage (%SH). the most appropriate statistical test to the distribution of the data will be used by the statistical program Sigmaplot© software for Windows version 12.0, with a significance level of 5%.
