Abstract

Climate change has intensified in the last hundred years, with prediction of larger increases in global average temperature for the next millennium. The consequences of these changes are manifested in different ways around the world, being more expressive in the tropical areas. For Brazil, the largest losses stand out in the intensification of El-Niño Southern Oscillation Events (ENSO), with estimates of droughts in Northern and Northeast regions and floods in Southern and Southeast. Indirect effects of these changes, together with socioeconomic and cultural conditions of different regions, accentuate the concern with the proliferation of infectious diseases, especially those transmitted by vectors. The increase of temperature, rainfall and humidity allow proper environments for the proliferation of mosquitoes, such as Aedes (Stegomyia) aegypti, dengue fever transmitter in Brazil. The current programs for the epidemiological control prevailing in Brazil are based mainly on elimination of the breeding sites, but it is required the study of the different factors involved in dengue transmission. A detailed investigation about the perception and knowledge of the population about the clinical features of disease, transmission ways, symptoms and control would be of great importance to develop strategies for social mobilization for disease control. Thus, this project aims to analyze the relationship between temperature and the variation in the number of vectors and dengue fever cases in Brazil, with the development of an epidemiological model, besides the investigation of the disease perception by the population using as study area, the municipality of Rio Claro, São Paulo State, Brazil.
