Abstract

Calcium aluminate cement (CAC) has been studied as a repair material in endodontics. CAC shows advantages in the physical and mechanical properties, bioactivity when exposed to simulated body fluid solution, and as a barrier against physical and chemical microleakage. The present study aims to produce biomaterial based on CAC to meet the recommendations of the report of the Prospective Study in Advanced Materials for Dental Applications to develop cements with potential applications for replacing the glass ionomer cement. In Brazil, ionomers are imported and only packaged in the country. Thus, some compounds will be incorporated into the CAC to increase the mechanical strength and biocompatibility with biological systems for application in dental health.
