Abstract

An organic functional decrease occur during the aging process. In Brazil, skin cancer is the most common cancer, responding for about 25% of all tumors diagnosed in all geographical regions. Ultraviolet radiation (UVR) from the sun is its largest etiologic agent. Cellular and structural changes arise as a result of an association between UVR and chronological aging. The experimental research on aging should be developed based on parameters that separate the features of photoaging and chronological aging and seeking animal models with cutaneous structure similar to humans. Different strategies are used for the prevention and treatment of photoaging. Phytochemical analysis of many plants used for this purpose have shown that these substances contain antioxidants have significant effects in the prevention and treatment of photoaging. The low intensity laser therapy (LILT) is widely used in the treatment of photoaging and has been used in various intensities to stimulate or inhibit cellular processes and facilitate absorption of substances used as protective cellular damage. Cell photobiomodulation for LILT is not yet fully understood in their molecular effects and there is need for further studies that will clarify these mechanisms and understand the intrinsic beneficial effects of this therapy, including photoaging process. Thus, the purpose of this study is to investigate and contribute to the elucidation of the isolated and associated action of the laser with a wavelength in the range of red and fruit extract of Lycium barbarum in the prevention and treatment of photoaging.
