Abstract

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) became a worldwide epidemic with growing proportions, and obesity is an important characteristic of its development. In the therapeutic context, the Roux en Y gastric Bypass (RYGB) has been considered an effective method, capable not only of promoting weight loss, but also supporting T2DM complete resolution. Despite these clinical findings, the glycemic control and metabolic changes phenomena are still being largely discussed even as to the conceptual definition of T2DM. In this sense, the use of literature-established methods to perform a detailed metabolomic investigation is relevant so as to identify metabolites from carbohydrate metabolic pathways. Therefore, the analysis of biological fluids associated with biopsies sections of gastrointestinal tract represents an elementary aspect for identification and understanding of metabolic alterations. Furthermore, this approach has an unprecedented nature and aims to expand the comprehension of all the perspectives involved in T2DM clinical manifestations, an issue of public health interest.
