Abstract

Starting with the analysis of the films of the Italian director Dario Argento, this master project has as major goal the study of the reverberation of the visual culture images in his movies, as well as to understand his production as part of this artistic-cultural universe. It is intended to embrace his cinematographic production in a plural sense, analyzing not only his films, but relating them with different works of art, at times referenced directly, or alluded in objects, scenes or even characters. Dario Argento is one of the greatest Italian exponent of the horror subgenre, giallo and works constantly with the theme of the fine arts as catalysts of fear. Some of his films as Suspiria (1977) and Profondo Rosso (1975) evoke classic painting of Edward Hopper, M.C. Escher and also Aubrey Beardsley. La Sindrome di Stendhal (1996) presents the power of the works of art by inserting in its characters agony and numbness sensations. This work is based, therefore, in the reading and understanding of his movies and the works with which we propose relations.
