Abstract

In the last decade there has been a significant increase in the production and sale of alcoholic beverages in Latin America, which gives this hemisphere 20% of world consumption of that substance according to World Health Organization (2011), whereas this increase, it is possible that nurses and health professionals in general, are increasingly likely to have contact with alcoholics in their daily work, which should encourage the study of the attitudes of these professionals to the phenomenon since there is evidence that attitudes are precursors both the quality as the quantity of care provided. The attitudes of health professionals, allied to little knowledge and preparation to act on the problems caused by harmful use of alcohol and other drugs have been identified as a major cause for the low detection of these problems, becoming one of the main obstacles to a more effective participation of these workers on the issue. The availability of reliable and instruments capable of detecting these attitudes should constitute a concern of researchers in the field is desirable that such instruments show themselves capable of being applied in the largest possible number of cultures in order to test the characteristics of the instruments and accuracy different contexts. In a systematic survey disclosed that despite the magnitude of the problem in Latin America and in particular the Hispano America, there are few studies on the attitudes of health professionals Spanish, from observing that in the last decade, only two studies from region have been published which may be due in part by the lack of tools available in that language for measuring attitudes. The two instruments used to measure attitudes were the Nursing Education in Alcohol and Drug Education (NEADA) and Seaman Manello Nurses' Attitudes Towards Alcohol and Alcoholism Scale. The limitations of the instruments already used in Spanish to verify attitudes point to the need for a new instrument translated and validated for use among nurses in all areas and is able to measure the various attitudinal dimensions is available, on these observations, was built and validated in Brazil a Scale Attitudes to Alcohol, Alcoholism and alcoholics EAFAAA , it is a likert - type five-point scale consisting of 50 items divided into four factors (work and interpersonal relaciones with the person related to alcohol use; the person related to alcohol use disorders disorders; disorders related to alcohol use; and alcoholic beverages and their use). The EAFAAA was developed in Portuguese, and unlike the scales previously mentioned, there are published studies on its psychometric qualities in the source language and also translated into English and validated presenting in both languages good reliability indexes. Whereas EAFAAA proved to be a valid instrument, this research proposal aims to translate, culturally adapt and validate the instrument for the Spanish built in Brazil. The expected results of this study conducting characterized by the availability of EAFAAA validated and culturally adapted for use in Spanish-speaking populations, which should contribute to the lifting of subsidies that allow verification of the possibilities of standardization, uniformity and reproducibility of the results obtained with the instrument in different cultures , allowing its internationalization, and provides a tool that can reverse the improvement of quality of care of nursing professionals for alcohol users in Hispano-America.
