Abstract

The objective of the present study is to evaluate the technical and economic viability of using different forms of calculation and electrolyte balance values in feed formulation for laying hens on the second production cycle. Two hundred and forty laying hens in the second production cycle, with over 100 weeks age, will be arrange in a randomized complete design in a 3 × 3 + 1 factorial arrangement with three formulas for calculating electrolyte balance ([Na +] + [K +] - [Cl-], [Na + + K +] - [Cl- + S2-] and [Na + + K + Mg2 + + Ca2+] - [Cl- + S2- + P3-]) and three values of electrolyte balance (150, 250, 350 mEq.kg-1) and a control diets (without formula and values for electrolyte balance) forming ten treatments and four replications of six birds each. The experimental diet will be formulated to meet the nutritional requirements of the hens. The formulation of the control diet will not be considered an electrolyte balance because the same will be formulated only to tend the requirements of each mineral (Na, K, Mg, Ca, Cl, S and P). However in the control diet will be quantified at the end of formulation which were the BE used of each formula. Diets will be formulated by nonlinear programming and will be isocaloric, isonitrogenous and isoaminoacid, but the levels of sodium, chloride, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium and sulfur may fluctuate for obtaining the various electrolyte balances. Will be evaluated every 21 days performance parameters and quality of eggs and at the end of the experiment the shelf life of eggs, economic analysis and characterization of excreta through metabolism trial to quantify the excretion of nitrogen and minerals. The data will be submitted to analysis of variance and if occurs significant effects the averages are compared by Tukey test (5%). (AU)
