Abstract

In general, to obtain products related to the cultivation of sugar cane products generates significant quantities of waste polluting the environment, one of them is the vinasse, which is high in organic matter. One of the alternatives for sustainable management has been the use of that substance as a fertilizer for the own culture, preventing the release into rivers or adjacent areas. Many studies show the role of ants as bioindicators because they are sensitive to changes in the environment, their morphological attributes such as size and shape, may reflect the combination of ecological responses. Thus, in this project we propose to study the morphology of the species of ants foraging on sugar plantations in the southeastern state of São Paulo, where irrigation with vinasse is a common routine. Nine areas of collection, three with organic management, three with and three without vinasse stillage will be selected. Apart from three areas of semi-deciduous forest. The ants will be collected with pitfalls and Berlese-Tüllgren modified, in which case they will be used for soil and straw. With this study we hope to obtain associations between ant morphologic species and the type of soil management. In addition to expanding the knowledge of the bio-ecology and functional diversity of ants forage cultivars of cane sugar that make use of vinasse as fertilizer. (AU)
