Abstract

DDGS (Distiller's Dried Grains with Soluble) is a potential ingredient for soybean bran replacement in animal diets due to reductions on production costs. The aim of this project is to evaluate the use of DDGS as a substitute for soybean bran in diets for P. mesopatamicus juvenile. Three experimental trails will be performed, being the digestibility of the ingredient (DDGS) the first one, with 54 P. mesopotamicus juveniles (30 grams) randomly allocated in three circular aquariums (18 fish/aquarium), feeding a diet containing 30% DDGS, 69.5% referential diet and 0.5% chromic oxide, for seven days. Fecal samples will be collected and analyzed to estimate Apparent Digestibility Coefficient (ADC) for protein, energy, dry matter, lipids and phosphorus. After obtaining data, will be formulated diets containing different levels of DDGS replacing soybean bran (0, 20, 40, 60, 80, 100%). On the second trial ADCs for the diets above and a commercial diet will be estimated. P. mesopotamicus juveniles (30 grams) will be stocked in seven circular aquariums (18 fish/aquarium) in Latin square 7x7 (six diets + commercial diet and seven replicates) design. The third experiment will be a growth trial with 560 P. mesopotamicus juveniles (5 grams) randomly distributed in 28 rectangular aquariums, seven treatments (0, 20, 40, 60, 80, 100% DDGS + commercial diet) and four replicates, feeding experimental diets for 12 weeks. It will be evaluate fish performance, carcass chemical composition, composition of gut microbiota, intestine morphology and economic viability. All data will be subjected to a one-way ANOVA analysis of variance to determine significant (P d 0.05) differences among treatments. (AU)
