Abstract

This research project abroad (BEPE) is linked and makes part of the doctorate project "Beyond Knowledge: educational TV in Brazil and France, the Canal Futura and Cinquième (1994-2002)" funded by FAPESP and developed in the "Programa de Pós-Graduação em História da UNESP/Assis". This research project abroad aims to achieve an historical analysis of Cinquième, French educational channel, that existed from 14th December 1994 to 7th January 2002, when it became France 5, and also study the main written and audiovisual sources surrounding the debates about the role of the public sector in the education question. The research project also intends to understand how another media sectors, as the press, treated the subject. In addition, it aims to understand the relationships that made possible the existence of Cinquième in the last decade of the twentieth century. The research project in France will be held at the Laboratoire de Recherche Historique Rhône-Alpes (LARHRA-UMR CNRS 5190) in Lyon under the responsibility of the professor of History and Cultural Anthropology Evelyne Cohen (ENSSIB-University of Lyon).
