Abstract

Background: Several studies have investigated the deleterious effects of the association between obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) with obstructive lung diseases (OLD), which include greater severity of hypoxemia cause hemodynamic impairment, evaluated during sleep and wakefulness, which negatively impact on morbidity and mortality. However, is little known if the coexistence of respiratory disease and OSA are associated with greater impairment in autonomic and cardio respiratory coupling during wakefulness and sleep , which has been powerful diagnostic and prognostic markers. Objectives: To assess autonomic behavior through the analysis of heart rate variability (HRV) , the oxygen saturation variability (OSV) and cardio respiratory synchronization during wakefulness and different sleep stages in patients with coexistence of OLD and OSA .Study Design: Cross-sectional, observational, comparative. Methods: 20 patients with COPD and OSA, 20 patients with asthma and OSA, 20 patients with OSA without respiratory diseases. Be obtained through polysomnography signals of heart rate, beat to beat and respiratory cycles, in wakefulness and during sleep. HRV linear and nonlinear indices, OSV and cardio respiratory coupling are calculated during wakefulness and the different sleep stages, and after this data will be correlated with clinical parameters and severity of OSA.Relevance of the study: The analysis of HRV, OSV and cardio respiratory coupling in patients with coexistence of OLD and OSA will provide greater understanding of the impact of these adjustments in cardio respiratory diseases modulated by autonomic control , and thus establish the relationship between the severity of coexistence OSA and OLD .
