Abstract

The Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) allows to obtain three-dimensional images (volumetric - 3D), eliminating overlapping anatomical structures as well as the ability to differentiate soft tissue, gingival much as the palatal masticatory mucosa. Recently, a new method was based on technology for soft tissue called "cone beam computed tomography for soft tissue" (Soft Tissues-CBCT) and allows measurement of dimensions of the palatal masticatory mucosa and vestibular. This makes it possible to analyze and distance measures that correspond to the hard tissue and soft tissue and periodontal structures dentogingival complex. With this simple and non-invasive technique, clinicians will be able to determine the relationships between the structures of the periodontium, as the distance from the gingival margin, the cemento-enamel junction to the alveolar crest, as well as measuring the thickness of the palatal/lingual mucosa and alveolar bone. This technique CBCT can be a viable tool in the planning of periodontal plastic surgery as handling the periodontium, selection of optimal palatal donor area (collection of grafts soft tissue) and bone and tissue condition vestibular gingival recession (GR), which can influence the clinical results. The objective of this work is to correlate the initial tomographic and clinical data when evaluated the soft and hard tissues of patients with gingival recession. This will be a cross-sectional study and the sample consists of 17 systemically healthy individuals over 18 years of age suffering from gingival recession class I and II of Miller.
