Abstract

The Visceral Leishmaniasis (VL) is a serious disease caused by protozoa transmitted by sandflies, which infect animals and humans, and may range from mild to severe clinical manifestations, which induce death. Therefore, this disease is between the six priority diseases in the world and has affected thousands of people. In 2012, 39.653 cases were reported worldwide and Brazil notified 3.118 cases of global notifications, ranking third in frequency of cases (WHO, 2014). This disease has become a growing public health problem, with rapid geographical expansion of the cases, with the inclusion of new areas, creating a new standard in urban areas, which requires specialized studies and appropriate public policy measures to cope with it. The disease pattern has also changed between the different municipalities, and has been following specific features in some states, taking into account the environmental and socioeconomic conditions of the different sites and the management of agencies that operate in each municipality. So, in this work, we intend to compare the situation of the LV in the municipalities of Presidente Prudente, Araçatuba and Votuporanga in São Paulo, comprising the control strategies of Epidemiological Surveillance of each municipality. The information evaluated with the use of spatial analysis tools are essential for the prevention and control of disease, therefore, will analyze the epidemiological and spatial patterns, seeking the use of specific methodologies and modeling to combat the disease.
