Abstract

Asthma is a chronic airway inflammatory disease that results in impairment of quality of life of asthmatic individuals. In the last years, several studies have shown that the aerobic physical training (APT) performed at proper intensity and volume present anti-inflammatory effects to the airways, both in experimental models of asthma as to asthmatic individuals. However, although few cellular effects of have been investigated (only in experimental studies), the study of possible mediators (intra and extracellular) involved in the effects of APT in asthma was not yet investigated. Thus, the present project will evaluate the number of total and differential cells in the induced sputum, the expression of purinergic receptors and of proteins SOCS, JAKs and STATs in the cells of induced sputum of asthmatic patients submitted to APT, the levels of inflammatory mediators in the supernatants of induced sputum and/or in the breath condensate. Furthermore, the antigen presentation by dendritic cells to CD4+ T lymphocytes from the peripheral blood of asthmatic patients submitted to APT also will be evaluated. In addition, the proliferation and in vitro cytokines production by CD4+ T lymphocytes from the peripheral blood of asthmatic patients submitted to APT will be evaluated.
