Abstract

In this research project the synthesis DLP/KCC-1 nanomaterials for delivery of anticancer drugs is intended. These nanomaterials will consist of nanosized, corrugated nanoporous silica nanoparticles with rough, "virus-like" topography, whose surfaces are functionalized with pH-responsive and DLPs. Due to their rough surface morphology, these nanoparticles are expected to enter cells effectively to deliver drugs "on demand". The resulting nanoparticles will be expected to have high drug adsorption capacity as well. They will be easily tailorable to host specific types of guest molecules with modification of their pore size, geometry and surface functional groups. The ability of the nanoparticles to: a) adsorb and release the drug to cancer cells and b) show anti-tumor activity in vitro will then be investigated. (AU)
