Abstract

The observation of implanted projects and ongoing studies in the field is stablished as an important aspect of the design process in the current research. Therefore, it's proposed an approximation with researchers of HafenCity University (HCU, Hamburg) - school with large experience in the matter of urban design - through the research internship in the University, as well as the participation in classes of the Urban Design program and the meetings of the research group REAP (Resource Efficiency in Architecture and Planning), so to complement the research in Brazil. Is also planned close observation and study of the local projects implemented in the city. The HafenCity area and the region of Wilhemsburg, both in the city of Hamburg, are examples of restructuration actions in potential areas. HafeCity is located in a deactivated harbour perimeter, a space with emptied functions; the process of redesign, occurred in the early 2000's, consists of the renovation of old harbour's warehouses as hotels, stores, offices, and residential area, introducing a new space for the population. Wilhemsburg, in other hand, went through a process of restructuration by the time the International Building Exhibition (IBA) happened, between the years of 2006 and 2013. In this sense, the period spent abroad contributes by broadening the research horizons, widening the variety of references and allowing experience exchange with others research groups that come with innovative ideas, in addition to the analysis and observation of real projects and its uses.
