Abstract

Archeometry is defined as the application of all experimental sciences and technologies for the study and characterization of artistic, archeological and material objects of our cultural patrimonial in such way that it can benefit conservation sciences, archeology, history, arts, etc... The various methodologies that are used, combined with different researchers, can help the study, characterization and better understanding of the objects that belong to a historical and artistic patrimonial, which allows to extract information about technologies and creative processes that are related to the artists and their cultural society. These physical-chemical analysis can be useful to study different materials and objects, such as paintings, murals, ceramics, metals, etc. In the particular case of paintings, the analysis can help studies about the pigment color degradation processes that happens because of long periods of light exposure. In this proposal, possible degradation processes of some pigments will be studied. There will be more priority over pigments based on cobalt, tin, cadmium and selenium, which constitute the pigments: cobalt blue (CoO.Al2O3), cerulean (CoO.nSnO2), cadmium yellow (CdS+ZnO) and cadmium orange(Cd(S,Se)). These studies shall be done through standard samples prepared with these pigments that will suffer laboratorial aging due to exposure to ultraviolet and infrared radiation.
