Abstract

Osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee has a large impact on quality of life of patients due to changes in physical function. Adipose tissue, especially intermuscular (IMAT), has been studied as a major contributor to the modification of muscle function, and may change the postural control. Objective: To investigate the distribution of body composition in subjects with knee OA and its relation to postural control, as well as serum levels of interleicina-6 (IL-6), interleukin-1² (IL-1²), Tumor Necrosis Factor ± (TNF-±), leptin and adiponectin collagen Oligomeric Matrix Protein (SCOMP), and level C-terminal telopeptide of collagen (uCTX II) urinary. Methods: Will be selected 60 subjects aged 40 to 65, equally divided into control group and OA group knee, matched for gender, age and BMI. The body composition analysis will be performed using the DXA (Dual-energy X-ray Absorptiometry) and computed tomography for analysis of IMAT. The analysis of postural control will be carried out by force platform (Bertec, OH, USA). Serum samples will be analyzed and for the detection of cytokines, SCOMP and urine samples for detection uCTX-II for analysis by ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Assay Imunnosorbent). Differences between the data from the OA and control groups will be analyzed by independent test-T, and to establish the relationship between the variables of body composition, IMAT, inflammatory markers and biomarkers in postural control variableswill be performed a multiple variable analysis.
