Abstract

The intestinal microbiota can be considered a vital organ due to their important role on the health of the bird, but more detailed research studies are needed to elucidate this complex system. In this context, molecular techniques such as real-time PCR has been highly used to evaluate intestinal response to pathogens and dietary changes as the inclusion of additives. Thus, this research aims to quantify the bacteria which have effects butyrogenics on intestinal microbiota of commercial turkeys fed with a diet supplemented by Organic Acids (OAs), probiotic and product of Competitive Exclusion (CE) and, subsequently infected with Salmonella Heidelberg (SH), emergent serovar in Aviculture and public health. For this, one assay with the objective to evaluate the additives efficiency in both control and the persistence infection group by SH in the crop and in the cecum, as well as its action on the cecal microbiota, especially F. prausnitzii population and intestinal morphometry. The results are expected to increase knowledge on the intestinal microbiota of commercial turkeys and the effect that the studied additives can produce on the intestinal bacteria as well as their action on the control and reduction of infection by SH.
