Abstract

The effects of phototherapy for performance improvement have been widely studied. However, there are few studies showing its effects on muscular training, as well as, there aren't studies where different moments of phototherapy irradiations were tested. The aim of this study is to elucidate what is the optimal moment for phototherapy irradiation when used in association with hypertrophy training. For this, a randomized, double-blinded placebo-controlled trial is been proposed. A hypertrophy training protocol applying phototherapy and/or placebo before and/or after each training session will be performed. The training protocol will last 12 weeks and it will be assessed peak torque in maximum voluntary contraction test (MVC), load in 1-repetition maximum test (1-RM), thigh circumference (perimetry) at larger cross-sectional area (CSA), and inflammatory marker interleukin-6 (IL-6). Forty-eight volunteers, aged between 18-35 years, healthy and physically active will be recruited. For the moment, twelve volunteers were already recruited for a pilot study and we assure that the development of this project is fully possible in schedule proposed for the period of BEPE. This part of the project will be supervised by an exercise specialist that will contribute for the project quality and the doctorate candidate knowledge.
