Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effect of different irradiation parameters with the Er:YAG laser on the morphology, organic and inorganic composition of the dentin, and the micromorphology and adhesive interface bond strength formed by the irradiated dentin and adhesive system. One hundred and twenty six dentin disks will be irradiated with the Er:YAG laser according to the variation factor (surface treatment), composing 7 experimental groups: G1 without irradiation (control); G2 (200mJ/ 20Hz/50¼s); G3 (200mJ/20Hz/300¼s); G4 (200mJ/20Hz/600¼s); G5 (80mJ/2Hz/50¼s); G6 (80mJ/2Hz/300¼s); G7 (80mJ/2Hz/600¼s). The specimens will be evaluated by different methods, namely: morphological analysis by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) (n=3); evaluation of organic and inorganic constituents of dentin, by micro-Raman spectroscopy (µRS) (n=1); micromorphology evaluation of the adhesive interface by means of confocal microscopy (n=3); and evaluation of the bond strength by microshear test (µSBS) (n=11). The experiments of confocal microscopy and microshear will be mounted using a self-etching adhesive system (Scotchbond Universal, 3M ESPE, USA) together with a composite resin (Z350 XT, 3M ESPE, USA). These specimens will be analyzed after 24 hours and 1 year of artificial saliva storage. So we intend to evaluate the influence of different irradiation parameters on morphological, structural and organic minerals aspects and their interaction with the adhesive system over time. Quantitative data obtained will be analyzed statistically (p <0.05) and qualitative will be described in comparison. (AU)
