Abstract

The in vitro study will investigate new dentin and enamel surfaces etching strategies and surface biomodification/reinforcement for effective placement of adhesive restorations, shifting into biomimetic approaches to restore the remaining tissue structure and evaluated over time. In the first phase, sixty-four human molar will be prepared and etching with glycolic acid or lactic acid (the concentration and timeframe will be optimized in pilot studies) and will be evaluated by different methods: scanning electron microscopy, zimography analysis, nanoindentations, microtensile bond strength and confocal microscopy. After this step, the conditioning agent that will have the best performance will be used in the second phase, in which sixty-four human molars will be prepared and etching according with phase I and after, two new primers will be prepared by bioactive compounds within the rich plant sources of proantocianidins (PACs). Utilizing a phytochemical designer concept, we will use enriched mixtures of PACs from cinnamon and pine and will apply in dentin (the PACs-rich concentration and timeframe will be optimized in pilot studies) surface after etching procedure. The ability of reinforce the stability of resin dentin will be evaluated by in situ zymography, microtensile bond strength and confocal microscopy after 24 hours and axial cyclic loading (50 N). Quantitative data obtained will be analyzed statistically (p <0.05) and qualitative will be described in comparison. (AU)
